Position Overview

This role is pivotal in delivering project management and drug development expertise to Global Project Teams, including the strategic formulation and execution of a comprehensive product development strategy. The individual will collaborate closely with the Global Team Leader as the Project Management lead on drug development initiatives. This position may span various therapeutic areas and encompass projects at any stage of their lifecycle.
As a key member of the GMP&L function, this role will also support divisional and departmental objectives and may lead non-project initiatives to further these goals. Reporting to the Sr Director, Group Leader, GPM&L or the Executive Director, US Head GPM&L, this position plays a crucial role in our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Independently oversee or spearhead strategic development on Global Project Teams (GPT) for drug development initiatives across all phases. Cultivate and maintain a high-performing team, managing the GPT in partnership with the Global Team Leader to drive strategy development and ensure the successful execution of the integrated product development plan.
  • Collaboration: Partner with the Clinical Team Leader to foster a high-performing Clinical Sub-team and facilitate the development and delivery of the clinical development plan in alignment with the overarching product development strategy.
  • Meeting Management: Organize team meetings, including agenda creation and documentation of decisions and action items. Identify organizational gaps and influence the project environment to address issues impacting the program/project.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the planning and allocation of program/project resources, ensuring adequate resourcing and budget alignment in close collaboration with finance and functional team members.
  • Project Oversight: Maintain global integrated project plans, timelines, risk management strategies, and communication plans. Resolve complex challenges and manage difficult stakeholder situations. Conduct critical path analyses and support scenario planning.
  • Status Reporting: Keep project status updated in project management information systems. Prepare scope change proposals and stage gate proposals for formal presentation to senior management.
    Exhibit comfort working independently within a matrix environment, providing coaching, influence, and mentorship to junior PMs, team members, and project stakeholders.
  • Best Practices: Identify and implement project management best practices for the broader GPM&L organization, ensuring Project Team awareness of Global Development Processes.
  • Departmental Contribution: Actively contribute to the advancement of the GPM&L department as a subject matter expert or leader of departmental initiatives.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MS, MBA, or PhD) in a scientific discipline, with additional relevant experience preferred.

Professional Experience

  • 10 or more years of experience
  • 4 or more years in a project management or related role within a biotech or pharmaceutical organization
  • Demonstrated success as a project manager/leader in planning and executing strategies for global drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management.
  • Proven track record as a leader and influencer
  • Direct people management experience preferred

Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and/or training in project management preferred.
