Position Overview

This job description outlines the primary duties and responsibilities associated with the role. It should not be interpreted as an exhaustive list of all tasks that may be required in the day-to-day operations.

Prioritizing the safety of all personnel is essential on a daily basis.

Provide comprehensive on-site administrative and technical oversight on construction initiatives.

This role reports directly to the Superintendent.

The Superintendent will determine the working hours.

This position is classified as hourly.

Certifications in CPR, First Aid, OSHA 30-Hour, LSC Basic Orientation Plus (BOP), and Site-Specific Safety Certification are mandatory.

A successful pre-employment background check for LMC and all military installations is required.

Completion of a pre-employment drug screening is mandatory.

A 10-Year DMV Report is required for operating company vehicles (as applicable) according to LMC and insurance guidelines.

A TWIC card may be necessary for specialized projects.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety

o Adhere to and promote the company’s Health, Safety, & Environmental Program, Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace, and Harassment-Free Work Environment initiatives.

o Understand and enforce safe work practices and the use of personal protective equipment for all employees.

o Serve as a role model for workplace safety.

o Conduct daily inspections of the worksite to ensure a safe working environment.

o Report all accidents and incidents to the Superintendent and a Safety Representative promptly, regardless of severity, and assist in investigations.

o Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible worksite.

o Ensure compliance with all project procedures by project personnel.

o Deliver weekly safety training to the crew; document and submit to the Safety Manager in a timely manner.

o Ensure all employees are authorized and/or certified as competent to perform their tasks.

Budget Management

o Possess thorough knowledge of project plans and specifications.

o Understand the types and applications of materials required for project completion.

o Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the project scope.

o Review job setup and cost reports diligently.

o Identify changes to the scope of work and inform the Superintendent or Project Manager.

Project Planning and Coordination

o Collaborate with engineers, owners, or subcontractors to achieve project objectives.

o Plan project activities in conjunction with the Superintendent or Project Manager.

o Schedule project tasks with the Superintendent or Project Manager.

o Maintain accurate and up-to-date as-built drawings.

o Oversee the quality of work throughout the project.

o Address project field issues effectively.

o Order and monitor material deliveries.

o Request inspections as needed.

o Receive materials, manage inventory, and ensure safe storage.

o Coordinate utility locations.

o Manage layout and staking activities.

o Maintain an ongoing project punch list.

Schedule Management

o Develop detailed plans for one to two days of work with contingency plans.

o Outline weekly plans with less detail (needs, services, repairs).

o Schedule equipment and material requirements.

o Coordinate personnel needs.

o Schedule subcontractors.

o Arrange trucking requirements.

Labor Management

o Supervise craft employees and/or subcontractors to achieve daily objectives.

o Maintain responsibility for the productivity of craft employees.

o Address personnel issues within the crew.

o Conduct interviews for prospective employees and implement disciplinary actions as necessary.

o Document all company and safety violations, notifying the Superintendent and Safety Manager; recommend and implement corrective actions as needed.

o Conduct timely evaluations of new hires at 90 days and at least annually thereafter, using appropriate forms.

o Provide training opportunities for crew members to advance their careers.

o Evaluate potential employees for promotion or demotion.

o Share knowledge and experience with the crew.

o Communicate the overall project plan and short-term goals to the crew.

o Maintain and submit Employee Time Sheets.

o Complete and submit detailed Job Reports.

o Submit signed material receipts with daily reports, including job number, cost code, and purchase order number on the receipt.

Communication

o Maintain open communication with Superintendent(s), President, Project Manager, Shop Manager, Safety Manager, Human Resources, other Foremen, and all internal personnel.

o Communicate effectively with owners, engineers, inspectors, and other external stakeholders.

o Manage conflicts with crew members and all internal and external customers effectively.

Leadership

o Demonstrate leadership qualities and set a positive example for other crew members.

o Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.

o Take ownership of the project; make informed decisions and avoid excuses.

o Inspire and motivate employees positively; lead by example and hold employees accountable.

Equipment Management

o Oversee equipment and inventory management.

o Ensure proper care and cleanliness of equipment and tools.

o Maximize equipment utilization.

o Manage and inventory small tools assigned to the project.

o Coordinate equipment needs with the equipment manager.

o Ensure proper usage and maintenance of equipment on-site.

Customer Service

o Build and maintain relationships with customers.

o Instill confidence in customers by responding promptly and effectively.

o Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Attitude

o Maintain a positive attitude; be a team player.

o Prioritize the company’s interests.

Maintenance Level

o Work independently with minimal support from the Superintendent and Project Manager.

Time Management

o Prioritize tasks effectively; manage time wisely to achieve objectives.

o Maintain good attendance and punctuality; schedule time off in advance.

Work Load

o Manage crew and multiple projects efficiently.

o Complete and maintain all necessary documentation required for the project.

Qualifications and Standards

Minimum Training and Experience

o Minimum of 2 years of construction experience or a combination of education and experience.

o Knowledge of principles, methods, and standards in the designated trades area.

o Experience with tools and equipment commonly used in the trade.

o Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.

o Perform work in accordance with established standards and specifications.

Physical Requirements

o Must be capable of exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

o Work involves sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods.

o Must be able to lift and/or carry weights ranging from five to fifty pounds.

Interpersonal Communications

o Requires the ability to communicate verbally and/or through signals to convey or exchange information, including receiving assignments and instructions from supervisors.

Numerical Aptitude

o Requires the ability to apply mathematical formulas; perform addition and subtraction; and multiply and divide.

Manual Dexterity

o Must possess adequate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Interpersonal Temperament

o Ability to interact with people beyond just receiving instructions.

o Must perform well under minimal stress when faced with emergencies.
