Position Overview

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a driven Security Systems Engineer to become a vital member of our Security Engineering team at the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Charleston site.

The successful candidate will be tasked with the design and execution of physical security systems, including but not limited to access control, biometrics, video surveillance, and barrier devices at NPTU Charleston.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering assessments for construction initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant security standards.
  • Provide support as a Work Control Officer (WCO).
  • Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance operations.
  • Manage the budget for security systems.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific field from an accredited institution, accompanied by a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in the same fields with at least 7 years of experience. Candidates should also have qualifications as a Shift Supervisor Part II or equivalent, with 3 years of experience as an Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) in the Nuclear Operations Program. Previous experience in developing and implementing physical security systems is essential.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles, as well as experience in reviewing applicable Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Defense (DOD) regulations and creating compliance implementation strategies.
