Position Summary

The Estimating Manager serves as the leader of the Estimating Team, responsible for preparing quantity and cost estimates for prospective projects, as well as submitting bids and budgets accordingly. This role is crucial in supporting the Sales Team and other departments by delivering precise cost estimates and assisting with bid preparations as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process incoming Requests for Quotes (RFQs) related to Pressure Pipe, FRP, and RCMTP from Sales and other departments.
  • Establish and maintain organized Estimating Folders for RFQs, assigning estimators to develop project costs.
  • Prepare RFQs that are not assigned to other estimators.
  • Review bid documents for completeness and request any missing information.
  • Assess plans and specifications for project relevance and compatibility.
  • Develop a timeline of activities to meet required bid deadlines.
  • Monitor project assignments to ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Implement a checking system to guarantee bid accuracy.
  • Provide weekly updates on raw material costs for use in current costing workbooks.
  • Research and solicit proposals for buyout materials and subcontract bids from potential suppliers.
  • Review bid documents and prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) to enhance competitiveness.
  • Conduct competitive analyses as needed.
  • Coordinate pre-bid meetings with sales and operations teams.
  • Compare estimates against actual costs to ensure accuracy.
  • Establish and maintain performance metrics for estimating.
  • Continuously update and improve master copies of project cost workbooks and spreadsheets.
  • Schedule and conduct bi-monthly Estimating Team meetings to review assignments, standard operating procedures, and new cost templates.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with each estimator to evaluate performance.
  • Prepare Estimating Job Folders for the transition of data to Engineering post-award.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of work occurs in an office environment, involving a mix of sitting, standing, and walking. Some travel may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial construction is required.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Sage Estimating, OnScreen Takeoff, P6, Earthworks, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
