Job Title: Central Sterile Technician Service Line Specialist

OU Health is seeking a highly skilled Central Sterile Technician Service Line Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Sterile Processing department, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspection, wrapping, and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assume charge responsibility in the absence of the Supervisor
  • Identify and resolve issues and keep Supervisor and Director informed
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and troubleshooting skills associated with instruments or equipment
  • Maintain quality records such as logs, sterilization records, and count sheets as per CMS guidelines
  • Understand and utilize computers for generating data and requisitioning goods
  • Perform area cleaning by sanitizing workstations at the end of each shift
  • Maintain system and department competencies by attending department meetings, in-services, and annual updates
  • Demonstrate I CARE values statement and Service Pride Standards
  • Follow all safety rules while on the job
  • Attend local and national educational venues
Decontamination:
  • Follow Universal Precautions by wearing protective attire while working in the Decontamination area
  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment as needed, maintaining a continuous flow of instrumentation
  • Utilize cleaning detergents and agents by reading directions and MSDS sheets
  • Perform and document equipment testing according to departmental policy
  • Utilize Instrument Tracking system per department protocol
  • Follow industry and hospital standards associated with the transport of contaminated scopes and equipment
  • Request manufacturer's guidelines for proper decontamination of loaner instrumentation and equipment
  • Demonstrate understanding of patient safety associated with proper decontamination instruments and equipment
Assembly:
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage before assembly
  • Assemble Scope trays, instrument trays, Anastasia blades, and equipment following established trays listings
  • Wrap or pouch items according to size and type of scope, instrument, or equipment
  • Demonstrate understanding of proper set assembly for appropriate manner of sterilization
  • Interact with customers to ensure prompt delivery of needed instrumentation and equipment
  • Maintain acceptable levels of productivity based on experience, education, and department protocols
  • Communicate any issues arising with instrument and equipment preparation to the Supervisor or Sterile Processing Director
Sterilization:
  • Challenge the sterilization process using internal, external, and biological monitoring systems
  • Monitor, read, document, and interpret sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function and patient safety
  • Maintain acceptable levels of productivity based on experience, education, and department protocols
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Six (6) months instrument processing experience
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Central Processing Technician (CRCST) required
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) certification required within 12 months from hire
