OU Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Central Sterile Technician Certified to join our team. As a Central Sterile Technician Certified, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for our patients by ensuring the proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Assemble and wrap instrument sets to ensure proper preparation for surgical procedures.
  • Operate sterilized sonic cleaners and other related equipment to maintain a clean and sterile environment.
  • Retrieve and deliver surgical instruments in a timely and efficient manner to support surgical procedures.
  • Thoroughly inspect instruments to ensure they are clean and in good working order prior to sterilization.
  • Decontaminate instruments using proper chemical mixtures and procedures.
  • Test, operate, and load autoclaves to ensure proper sterilization of instruments.
  • Participate in the routine cleaning and decontamination of department work surfaces to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Complete sterilization log sheets to track and record sterilization processes.
  • Monitor sterile inventory to remove expired or compromised items and re-sterilize compromised instrument sets as needed.
  • Identify and notify appropriate personnel of inventory or supply shortages to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Assist in training new staff members to ensure a smooth transition and maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate Case Carts to ensure efficient and effective surgical procedures.
  • Pull needed supplies and instruments for cases to support surgical teams.
  • Coordinate with operating room staff to ensure proper supplies are delivered for each case.
  • Maintain optimal levels of patient care surgical supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and effective environment.
  • Practice good inventory control techniques by following FIFO (first in, first out) practices to ensure timely replenishment and minimize waste.

Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months of related experience
  • Technician certification from either the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or from the Healthcare Sterilization Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization
  • Knowledge of simple record-keeping principles and practices
  • Skill in understanding and following verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Effective customer service skills
  • Able to read, spell, and do simple math
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
