Position Summary
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will deliver both routine and advanced field service assistance for our Sievers brand total organic carbon (TOC) analytical instruments and their accessories at client locations primarily within the metropolitan area. Responsibilities will encompass maintenance, verification, validation, repair, and calibration tasks, along with troubleshooting operational challenges. This role necessitates residency within designated areas.

A scientific approach to the operation, maintenance, and repair of analytical instruments is essential, alongside proficiency in completing daily and weekly administrative tasks. Strong client focus and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are critical for success in this position. We are looking for a technically skilled candidate with experience in technical field support, customer service, and familiarity with ultra-pure water applications or analytical instrumentation in laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client locations to conduct preventive maintenance and related services on TOC equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, and confirm customer services, including coordinating travel and parts shipments.
  • Maintain administrative duties, parts inventory, and relevant training.
  • Engage with customer inquiries, participate in sales rhythm calls, and attend service team meetings.
  • Respond to urgent service requests with specified response commitments for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Compose clear and concise reports for clients.
  • Assist with special projects and new hire training as directed by supervisors.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales to identify new instrument and service opportunities, as well as upsell services and consumables based on client needs.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols on the job, including the operation and maintenance of a company vehicle and compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Domestic travel is expected to be around 70%.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong technical, mathematical, and customer service skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks effectively, balancing service and administrative responsibilities.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving, with a focus on identifying root causes.
  • General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry, and safety protocols.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient for servicing instruments and handling electrical equipment.
  • Ability to learn company procedures promptly upon employment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, calibrated instruments, and analytical equipment, as well as handling hazardous materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, capable of driving projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a commercial team environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills based on risk-reward analysis and business objectives.

Education & Experience
Required:
Associate's Degree in a Science, Technical, or Engineering discipline or equivalent education, along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a laboratory setting.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or Physics, or equivalent education, with at least 1 year of experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a laboratory environment.

Additional Information

Working Conditions
Flexibility to work a schedule that accommodates customer needs, including significant travel to client sites. This role may require overnight stays and air travel to various destinations.
