Position Overview

Role Summary
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will deliver routine to intricate field service assistance for our core Sievers brand total organic carbon (TOC) analytical instruments and accessories at client locations, primarily within the greater Phoenix AZ metropolitan area, with occasional support for clients across the broader West Service Region. Responsibilities will encompass maintenance, verification, validation, repair, and calibration tasks, alongside troubleshooting operational challenges. This role necessitates residency within specified areas.

  • Maricopa, Pinal, or Gila Counties, AZ or metropolitan Phoenix, AZ, within a one-hour drive of the Phoenix (PHX) International Airport.
  • Occasional field service support for other Sievers Analytical Instruments clients as required within Canada and the US.

The ideal candidate will prefer to manage their own planning, scheduling, and confirmation of continuous services while balancing diverse priorities. We are looking for someone who applies a scientific methodology to the operation, maintenance, and repair of analytical instruments and is adept at fulfilling daily and weekly administrative tasks. Client focus and effective communication (both written and verbal) are crucial for success in this position. The candidate should possess technical competence and experience in technical field support, customer service, and familiarity with ultra-pure water applications or the operation of analytical instruments in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client locations to conduct preventive maintenance and related services on TOC equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, and confirm client services, including coordinating travel and parts shipments.
  • Maintain administrative duties, parts inventory, and relevant training.
  • Engage with client calls, participate in territory sales rhythm calls, and attend service team meetings.
  • Respond to on-demand contract services with 3 or 7 business day response commitments for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Draft clear and concise reports for clients.
  • Participate in special projects and new hire training as assigned by supervisors.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales to identify new instrument and service opportunities, as well as upsell services and consumables at existing client sites based on needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols on the job, including the operation and maintenance of a company vehicle, adhering to all Veolia Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
  • Domestic travel approximately 70% of the time.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong technical, mathematical, and customer service skills.
  • Able to prioritize various tasks, including servicing multiple instruments and administrative responsibilities.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on identifying root causes.
  • General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry, and safety protocols.
  • Vision, manual dexterity, and coordination necessary for servicing instruments and handling electrical equipment.
  • Ability to learn applicable company procedures within a reasonable timeframe from the start of employment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and basic networking and database knowledge.
  • Capability to use standard hand tools, calibrated instruments, and analytical equipment, as well as manage chemically aggressive substances.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-driven, with the capacity to complete projects with minimal oversight.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively before groups and with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a commercial team environment.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions based on risk-reward analysis and organizational objectives.

Education & Experience
Required:
Associates Degree in a Science, Technical, or Engineering discipline; or equivalent education with a minimum of 3 years of experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instruments in a laboratory environment.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or Physics; or equivalent education with at least 1 year of experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instruments in a laboratory environment.
Additional Information

Working Conditions

  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on client needs.
  • Drive a motor vehicle - significant time each day in transit to client locations.
  • Air travel required to reach client destinations and provide backup support to other areas.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to client sites requiring overnight stays approximately 30 to 60% of the time, often with short notice to fulfill service and contractual response time commitments.
  • Use of laptop and mobile systems.
  • Regularly work around machinery, electrical equipment, chemicals, and within industrial facilities.
  • Work at a variety of client sites, including outdoor industrial installations, clean rooms, and laboratory environments requiring the use of clean suits/smocks.
  • Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity during tool use, handling small parts, and repair procedures.
  • Reach with hands and arms, below and above shoulder height.
  • Stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain a good driving record.
