PRIMARY PURPOSE :

The Special Education Instructional Support Paraprofessional is accountable to the building Principal and is tasked with delivering educational assistance to students with disabilities, facilitating their advancement in the general curriculum and their Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

An Associate's Degree or two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of college OR a high school diploma/GED with successful completion of the Georgia Paraprofessional Certification Test. A valid Paraprofessional Certificate. Ability to collaborate effectively with both adults and students, along with strong communication skills. Well-organized with proficient time management abilities.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :

Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality while executing assigned responsibilities effectively. Present a neat and professional appearance suitable for job duties. Adhere to school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including the Professional Standards Commission Code of Ethics relevant to job functions. Provide educational support to individuals and/or small groups of Students With Disabilities in both special education and general education environments as directed by the teacher. Exhibit effective classroom management skills and assist in supervising students to ensure their safety and compliance with school regulations. Conduct data collection and maintain routine record-keeping as instructed by the teacher, utilizing techniques and procedures learned through professional development. Support the teacher with necessary clerical tasks, which may include ordering and inventorying classroom supplies and materials. Maintain proficiency in instructional technology, including all Microsoft Office applications, and comply with system technology policies and procedures. Engage in professional development as mandated by the school system. Uphold confidentiality regarding all school-related information concerning students, staff, and institutional matters. Attend faculty meetings and other required gatherings. Keep paraprofessional certification current as mandated by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Demonstrate a proactive, flexible, and cooperative attitude while working diligently. Foster positive working relationships and readily accept direction from supervisors. Take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of the assigned teacher. Assist in preparing instructional materials, class displays, bulletin boards, and other educational activities, such as flash cards and charts. Ensure that the classroom, equipment, and resources are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. Supervise students before and after school and during non-instructional transition periods as assigned. Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff using appropriate verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating good public customer service principles. Maintain current certification in Mindset: De-Escalation/Physical Restraint when required. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
