PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional is accountable to the building Principal and is tasked with providing educational support to students with disabilities, facilitating their advancement in the general curriculum and their Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree or two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of college education OR a high school diploma/GED with successful completion of the Georgia Paraprofessional Certification Test.
- Valid Paraprofessional Certificate.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both adults and students, demonstrating strong communication skills.
- Organizational skills and effective time management.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality while performing assigned duties efficiently.
- Exhibit a professional appearance and dress appropriately for job responsibilities.
- Adhere to school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including the Professional Standards Commission Code of Ethics.
- Provide instructional assistance to individuals and/or small groups of students with disabilities in both special education and general education settings as directed by the teacher.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management skills and assist in supervising students to ensure their safety and compliance with school rules.
- Conduct data collection and maintain routine records as instructed by the teacher, utilizing techniques learned through professional development.
- Support the teacher with clerical tasks, which may include ordering and managing classroom supplies and materials.
- Maintain proficiency in instructional technology, including all Microsoft Office applications, and comply with technology policies.
- Engage in professional development as required by the school system.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all school-related information pertaining to students, staff, and school operations.
- Participate in faculty meetings and other required gatherings.
- Keep paraprofessional certification current as mandated by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
- Exhibit a positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude while demonstrating strong work ethic.
- Foster positive working relationships and readily accept direction from supervisors.
- Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the assigned teacher.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials, class displays, bulletin boards, and other educational activities.
- Ensure that the classroom, equipment, and resources are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
- Monitor students during non-instructional periods as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff using appropriate verbal and written skills, exemplifying good customer service.
- Maintain current certification in Mindset: De-Escalation/Physical Restraint when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
