Job Title: Youth Engagement Coordinator

Location: Queens, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $23.92 per hour


Role Summary:

The Youth Engagement Coordinator will connect with out-of-school, economically disadvantaged youth (ages) and provide them with alternative educational and employment opportunities. This position involves offering continuous support, advocacy, and guidance to assist participants in achieving their personal and program objectives, such as obtaining a high school equivalency diploma, progressing towards higher education or career-focused employment, and taking charge of their families and communities.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Engagement:
    • Implement outreach initiatives and community activities to boost referrals and visibility for Young Adult programs.
    • Assess potential participants' eligibility using established screening criteria.
    • Support recruitment efforts by identifying sources, delivering presentations, screening candidates, and gathering necessary documentation.
    • Monitor and evaluate recruitment activities to enhance outreach strategies.
    • Conduct extensive outreach, including home and street visits, to engage hard-to-reach participants.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Ensure enrollment applications are thorough, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
    • Create promotional materials and manage content across various platforms.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and execute student engagement events, service projects, and community meetings.
    • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and relevant events as required.
  • Relationship Development and Participant Support:
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with referral organizations.
    • Connect participants with service providers for additional support.
    • Evaluate and address the personal needs of participants, providing assistance as necessary.
    • Facilitate leadership development activities and support individual and group counseling.
    • Advocate with various systems (e.g., human services, health, court) to address challenges faced by participants.
    • Promote a positive program culture through effective relationship building and teamwork.
    • Engage in consortium meetings and other collaborative initiatives.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Take on special projects and additional tasks as needed to support program objectives and adhere to contract requirements.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
    • 2-3 years of relevant experience.
    • Familiarity with the Queens area and its ZIP codes.
    • Strong understanding of community resources and service availability.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with effective presentation capabilities.
    • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
    • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
