POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Support Specialist is a dedicated and empathetic member of the Community Residence Program team, committed to fostering a secure and therapeutic atmosphere for children and adolescents facing significant emotional challenges. Reporting to the Program Supervisor/Social Worker and the Program Director, this role is essential in delivering specialized care, supervision, and therapeutic activities to residents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Individualized Care: Provide customized supervision and support for each resident, ensuring their safety and overall well-being.
- Positive Behavioral Modeling: Exhibit constructive behaviors and embody the program's core values to positively influence residents.
- Strength-Based Approaches: Implement strength-based strategies to promote resilience and asset-building among the youth.
- Skill Development: Evaluate and instruct residents in daily living and independent skills, while monitoring their progress.
- Therapeutic Environment: Sustain a nurturing and therapeutic setting, encouraging appropriate social interactions and emotional development.
- Household Management: Foster a homelike environment, demonstrating responsibility in executing household tasks alongside residents.
- Service Planning: Actively engage in the formulation and assessment of service plans, aligning with individual goals and objectives.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Employ trauma-sensitive methods in all interactions and care provided to residents.
- Transport and Supervision: Accompany residents to various appointments and activities, ensuring necessary supervision and transportation.
- Family Engagement: Encourage and facilitate family involvement and potential reunification, maintaining consistent communication and utilizing strength-based strategies.
- Counseling Support: Provide both formal and informal counseling and support to residents, aiding in their emotional and social development.
- Medication Management: Ensure strict compliance with prescribed medication regimens for each resident.
- Behavioral Support: Assist residents in managing their behavior and provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Incident Reporting: Promptly report any incidents or unusual occurrences to the supervisor and complete required documentation.
- Documentation: Ensure all assigned reporting and documentation are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
- Residential Maintenance: Assist with residence upkeep, including general cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal planning and preparation, while coaching residents in these skills.
- Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Participate in unique events, such as the annual Family Bonds retreat, and perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating a versatile and committed approach to the comprehensive well-being of the youth and the overarching mission of the organization.
Qualifications:
This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma, with experience in managing children with emotional challenges preferred. An Associate's degree is advantageous. A valid New York State driver's license is mandatory.
