Position Overview

The Accountant I role is a key position within the Financial Operations Directorate, dedicated to maintaining the financial integrity of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). This position is essential for providing accurate and timely financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishing new general ledger accounts and organizations within the Deltek Costpoint ERP system.
  • Managing the opening and closing of accounting periods in Deltek Costpoint.
  • Overseeing project administration tasks, including the initial setup, opening, closing, and modifications of projects in Deltek Costpoint.
  • Recording and reconciling cash receipts to the general ledger.
  • Reconciling general ledger accounts and subsidiary accounts, implementing necessary corrections.
  • Preparing and entering journal entries into the general ledger, as well as importing entries via pre-processor into Deltek Costpoint.
  • Completing month-end closing responsibilities in line with established timelines.
  • Submitting reconciliations to corporate finance.
  • Executing additional accounting-related functions as required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business from an accredited institution, or four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive under strict deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles and practices.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong reasoning, logic, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective time management skills, with the capacity to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Customer service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of two years of general accounting experience, particularly in general ledger management, month-end closing, project management, or account reconciliations.
