Position Overview
Canam is in search of a Project Accountant to become a vital part of its Finance Team in Frederick, MD. This role will focus on the project accounting module, managing revenue recognition transactions, overseeing the general ledger impacts of project activities, and maintaining project master files. Responsibilities include project forecasting, validating billing processes, managing project closures, supporting audit procedures, and ensuring compliance and precision in project accounting transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct project forecasting to establish a foundation for revenue recognition.
- Review revenue recognition transactions in alignment with project forecasts and record monthly revenue figures.
- Maintain project accounting master files to guarantee accurate and current information.
- Collaborate with the invoicing team to ensure the accuracy of project billing.
- Oversee coding for project purchase orders and accounts payable, ensuring precise cost tracking.
- Manage the closure of projects to fulfill all financial and contractual obligations.
- Handle project retention and manage deposits related to contracts.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for stakeholders to aid in decision-making.
- Support the audit process related to project accounting.
- Engage in initiatives for process improvement and actively contribute to enhancing project accounting practices.
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Business or Accounting or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.
- Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to analyze a variety of issues arising from the diverse nature of projects managed.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is a plus.
