Primary Responsibilities
The Senior Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed healthcare professional with over 2 years of experience. Utilizing the Parkland nursing professional practice model, the RN coordinates patient care delivery tailored to specific populations and health conditions. Through the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, formulates nursing diagnoses based on health responses, develops and implements personalized care plans, and evaluates patient outcomes. The RN leverages their understanding of patient needs and the healthcare environment to facilitate smooth transitions through care encounters, minimizing complications and delays. The RN delegates tasks to healthcare personnel in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient conditions, and staff competencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting is required, with a preference for experience in acute care environments.

Licensure and Certifications
- A current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license is required.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained upon hire or placement in the role.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from recognized organizations is mandatory.

Skills and Competencies
- Deliver care to assigned patient populations in alignment with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary care plans, and specific clinical standards.
- Conduct continuous assessments, collaborate with team members as necessary, and provide nursing care that prioritizes patient-centered values.
- Exercise independent judgment in nursing care delivery.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills along with strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff in accordance with established policies.
- May be required to utilize the overhead paging system for communication.
- Provide guidance to non-nursing staff, serve as a preceptor, and participate in Charge Nurse rotations as needed.
- Prepare and lead in-service educational programs.
- Exhibit patient-centered behaviors consistently.
- As applicable, demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards for specialty care areas.
