Position Overview:


The primary responsibilities of the Certified Pharmacy Technician include the sterile compounding of category 2 and category 3 products under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. This role is also integral to the clean room sterilization team, with a minimum expectation of three cleans per month. The work schedule will vary, encompassing days, evenings, and weekends.

This position is eligible for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, offering a total of $5000 in commitment incentives distributed over a two-year timeframe, with payments made after six months, one year, and two years of service.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Process medication and supply orders for distribution to hospitals and clinics associated with the health system.
  • Perform sterile compounding of medication batches.
  • Coordinate shipments to various hospitals and clinics, ensuring compliance with temperature regulations (e.g., cold chain, room temperature).
  • Document pharmaceutical distribution activities, including medications and equipment, and adhere to quality control standards using both automated and manual systems.
  • Address and prioritize customer requests related to pharmacy distribution or compounding services.
  • Utilize automated dispensing technology and relevant software to fulfill medication orders.
  • Manage inventory by receiving, restocking, and rotating supplies, while also overseeing expiration date management.
  • Assist in training new staff members, providing education on job-specific tasks.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including controlled substance inventories and necessary documentation.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
  • No specific educational requirements, although completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy is required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • CPhT certification from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA is required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements:
Previous experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred, along with experience in sterile compounding.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (most of an 8-hour shift). Must be capable of lifting at least 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift and reaching overhead to access shelved products or for cleaning purposes.
