The California Institute of Technology is seeking a highly qualified Scientific Director to lead the Merkin Institute for Translational Research. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in advancing translational research in the biomedical sciences.
Key Responsibilities- Research Leadership: Provide scientific guidance and leadership to researchers and grantees, ensuring the successful implementation of research projects.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate efforts with the Merkin Institute's Executive Director and other stakeholders to advance translational research goals.
- Grant Review and Management: Serve on grant review panels and monitor ongoing and future Merkin-funded projects, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Research Infrastructure: Develop and maintain necessary project infrastructure, including creating short- and long-term strategic goals and troubleshooting tactical barriers to goal completion.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including researchers, grantees, and external partners, to ensure alignment and progress toward translational objectives.
- Education: PhD or equivalent in bio-science.
- Experience: 8 years of research and management experience, including fundraising through successful grant writing.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary research projects, including creating necessary project infrastructure and conceiving short- and long-term strategic goals.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with researchers, grantees, and external partners.
- Technical and Scientific Expertise: Comprehensive technical and scientific expertise, with experience in research methodologies and statistics relevant to translational research.
- PhD degree: A PhD degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Experience in Translational Research: Experience working with projects that have achieved translational impact in clinical settings is highly desirable.
- Editorial and Review Experience: Experience serving as an editor and/or reviewer for a scientific journal is a plus.
