Position Overview:
Under the supervision of a licensed physician, the Advanced Practice Provider, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, will take on primary responsibilities within their designated specialty, adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
This role involves managing complex patient cases and populations at risk, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. The candidate must exhibit the necessary knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and skills to effectively plan, coordinate, and deliver ongoing patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Primarily focused on inpatient care, with less than 20% of time allocated to outpatient settings.
Operating room participation and first assist duties, constituting 20% or more of the role.
Acts as a representative of the supervising physician for any delegated medical services within the scope of practice for Advanced Practice Clinicians.
Conduct assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and management of patients' healthcare needs. Implement clinical interventions, evaluate patient outcomes, and adjust care plans as necessary. Proactively communicate changes in patient conditions to ensure optimal care.May be required to participate in emergency department or unassigned call duties, specific to the practice location. Involvement in practice and/or inpatient call responsibilities may also be expected.
May perform various medical procedures.
Ensure thorough and timely documentation in compliance with facility policies.
Adhere to the scope of care as guided by federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the supervising physician's protocols.
Demonstrate appropriate patient referrals and transfers to other facilities as needed.
Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of disease processes while conducting detailed health histories and physical examinations or focused assessments based on patient needs.
Provide appropriate referral information to patients and collaborating physicians.Order necessary tests, procedures, and therapies in partnership with medical staff, following relevant organizational and unit-specific policies.
Conduct ongoing patient assessments and develop care plans in collaboration with other healthcare providers.Recognize and address physical, developmental, and psychosocial distress in patients and their families, providing suitable interventions.
Respond effectively to emergency situations, making patient management decisions tailored to individual needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: In South Dakota, certifications as a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) are mandatory, issued by the respective boards.
Preferred: A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience and 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
Physical Requirements:
Light work
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
