Position Overview

Under general oversight, the Advanced Practice Provider delivers both acute and routine medical services to a designated patient demographic. This role involves providing expert consultation and guidance as a highly-specialized healthcare professional. The position may include supervising support personnel in various clinical environments.

Key Responsibilities include:

1. Patient Consultation: Engage with patients in a clinical setting, assisting Total Joints Surgeons. Conduct assessments, establish diagnoses, and formulate treatment strategies. Implement treatments, monitor progress, and evaluate patient outcomes in accordance with established practice protocols.

2. Clinical Documentation: Perform comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations as required for medical procedures or admissions. Accurately document findings, highlighting both normal and abnormal results.

3. Patient Education: Develop educational materials for patients and update intake documentation. Communicate with pre-operative and post-operative patients regarding their care and manage prescription processes.

4. Care Coordination: Regularly assess and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families to promote optimal health outcomes.

5. Surgical Assistance: Occasionally serve as a first assistant during surgical procedures and perform both invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Employment Conditions
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Annual TB and rubella screenings may be necessary.
  • Hepatitis vaccination provided by the institution; candidates may opt-out or provide prior vaccination records.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Credentialing may be required; maintaining credentialed status is essential.
  • Certification status must be upheld.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required; prior experience is not mandatory.

Certification/Licensure: Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant or as a State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner (or certification pending, as evidenced by a temporary certificate).

Advanced degrees from accredited institutions may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical patient care experience.
  • Familiarity with EMR Cerner Software.
  • Over two years of directly related experience.
  • Specialization in orthopaedics; experience with total joints is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with orthopaedic surgeons, nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and ambulatory personnel.
  • Demonstrated leadership, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new electronic health record systems.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for both new and experienced Advanced Practice Providers.
