Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Advanced Practice Provider delivers independent acute and routine medical services to a designated patient population. This role involves providing expert consultation and guidance as a highly-specialized healthcare professional. The provider may oversee support personnel in a remote or out-of-hours clinical environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Patient Consultation: Assist Total Joints Surgeons in the clinic by assessing, diagnosing, and formulating treatment plans. Implement treatments, conduct follow-ups, and evaluate patient progress in accordance with established practice protocols.
2. Patient Assessments: Perform comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations as required for procedures or admissions. Document findings, noting significant normal and abnormal results.
3. Patient Education: Develop educational materials for patients and update intake documentation. Engage with both pre-operative and post-operative patients, managing prescription processes.
4. Care Coordination: Assess and modify intervention plans in collaboration with patients and their families to enhance health outcomes.
5. Surgical Assistance: Occasionally serve as a first assistant in surgical procedures.
6. Diagnostic Procedures: Conduct both invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Conditions of Employment:
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Annual TB and rubella screening may be necessary.
  • Hepatitis vaccination provided by the institution; candidates may decline or provide prior vaccination records.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Credentialing process may apply; maintaining credentialed status is essential.
  • Certification status must be upheld.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; no prior experience necessary.
Certification/Licensure: Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant or State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner, or certification pending as evidenced by a temporary certificate.

Completed degrees from accredited institutions exceeding the minimum educational requirement may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in clinical patient care.
  • Familiarity with EMR Cerner Software.
  • Over two years of directly related experience.
  • Specialization in orthopaedics; experience with total joints is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with orthopaedic surgeons, nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and ambulatory personnel.
  • Exemplary conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn a challenging electronic health record system.
  • Commitment to ongoing skill development for both new and experienced advanced practice providers.
