Position Overview

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will be responsible for planning, assessing, organizing, and implementing therapy programs aimed at enhancing sensory-motor development in children. This role involves conducting comprehensive evaluations to assess a child's functional abilities in areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, self-care, and daily living activities. The therapist will create individualized treatment plans and monitor each child's progress. Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with families and colleagues are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program and hold a valid license in California.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in pediatric therapy is preferred. New graduates must have completed a successful clinical placement in pediatrics during their training. Proficiency in conducting evaluations in a pediatric clinic setting is required.
  • Skills: Candidates should possess strong planning, assessment, scoring, and interpretation skills related to sensory processing and motor coordination. Effective written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
  • Certifications: Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and licensure by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pediatric occupational therapy services in a clinical environment, with occasional visits to schools or homes.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations that include standardized testing and structured observations, typically requiring one to two hours of assessment time, followed by scoring and clinical interpretation.
  • Identify areas of concern, set goals, and develop tailored treatment plans for clients.
  • Document evaluation results, treatment progress, and discharge summaries accurately and concisely.
  • Maintain detailed and current treatment notes for each client.
  • Create suitable home programs for clients, demonstrating strategies for developmental improvement.
  • Guide and mentor interns and volunteers involved in the occupational therapy program.
  • Foster positive interactions with colleagues, clients, families, and other stakeholders, treating everyone with respect and attentiveness.
  • Adapt to new personnel, procedures, and situations effectively.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards as outlined by relevant regulations.
  • Follow ethical guidelines to maintain high-quality job performance.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and effective time management skills.
  • Identify personal continuing education needs and pursue relevant courses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
