Position Overview

The role involves planning, assessing, organizing, and implementing pediatric occupational therapy initiatives aimed at enhancing sensory-motor development. The Occupational Therapist (OT) will conduct evaluations and assessments to ascertain a child's functional level in relation to their age across various domains, including fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, sensory modulation, self-care, and daily living activities. The OT will formulate a treatment strategy and track the progress of each child on their caseload. This position necessitates independent clinical judgment, strong communication abilities, and effective collaboration with colleagues and families.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program and possess a valid license in the State of California.

Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a pediatric therapy environment is preferred. New graduates must have completed a successful clinical placement in pediatrics during their professional training. Proficiency in conducting evaluations in a pediatric clinic setting is essential. Required skills include planning, administering, scoring, and interpreting assessments related to sensory processing, daily living activities, and fine motor coordination. Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial throughout this process.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pediatric occupational therapy services to children in a clinical environment, and occasionally in educational or home settings.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations that include standardized testing and structured clinical observations, which may require one to two hours of testing time, followed by scoring and clinical interpretation. A parent conference and a detailed assessment report will be provided for each evaluation.
  • Identify areas of concern, establish goals, and create treatment plans for clients.
  • Document evaluation results, treatment, follow-up, and discharge information accurately and concisely.
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date treatment records for each client.
  • Develop suitable home programs for clients when applicable, demonstrating developmental strategies for perceptual, motor, and sensory enhancement.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to interns and volunteers involved in the occupational therapy program.
  • Foster positive interactions with colleagues, clients, families, and external parties, treating everyone with respect and responsiveness to their needs.
  • Adapt to new individuals, procedures, and situations effectively.
  • Listen attentively and respond constructively to feedback from supervisors.
  • Participate actively in staff and in-service meetings.
  • Exhibit knowledge of health and safety protocols for children and families, yourself, and others in accordance with Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Adhere to AOTA guidelines for ethical and high-quality job performance.
  • Arrive at work punctually and demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • Identify personal continuing education needs and pursue relevant courses.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
