Position Overview
The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will be responsible for planning, assessing, organizing, and implementing occupational therapy programs aimed at enhancing sensory-motor development in children. This role involves conducting comprehensive evaluations to ascertain a child's functional level in relation to their age, focusing on areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, self-care, and daily living activities. The therapist will formulate individualized treatment plans and monitor each child's progress effectively.
Qualifications
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program and hold a valid license in California.
Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a pediatric therapy environment is preferred. New graduates must have completed a successful clinical placement in pediatrics during their professional training. Proficiency in conducting evaluations in a pediatric clinic setting is essential. Required skills include planning, administering, scoring, and interpreting developmental tests related to sensory processing and motor coordination. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
Certifications:
- Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- Licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pediatric occupational therapy services to children in a clinical environment, with occasional outreach to schools or homes.
- Conduct thorough evaluations that incorporate standardized testing and structured clinical observations, requiring significant testing time followed by scoring and clinical interpretation. A parent conference and a detailed assessment report will accompany each evaluation.
- Identify areas of concern, establish goals, and create treatment plans tailored to each client.
- Document evaluation results, treatment progress, follow-up, and discharge accurately and concisely.
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date treatment notes for each client.
- Develop suitable home programs for clients when applicable, showcasing developmental strategies for sensory and motor improvement.
- Guide and mentor interns and volunteers involved in the occupational therapy program.
- Foster positive interactions with colleagues, clients, families, and external parties, treating everyone with respect and responsiveness.
- Adapt to new personnel, procedures, and situations with ease.
- Actively participate in staff and in-service meetings.
- Exhibit knowledge of health and safety standards for children and families, as well as personal safety, in accordance with Cal/OSHA regulations.
- Adhere to AOTA guidelines for ethical and high-quality job performance.
- Demonstrate punctuality and effective time management skills.
- Identify personal continuing education needs and pursue relevant courses.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
