Position Overview

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will be responsible for planning, assessing, organizing, and implementing therapy programs aimed at enhancing sensory-motor development in children. This role involves conducting comprehensive evaluations to assess a child's functional abilities in relation to their age, focusing on areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, self-care, and daily living activities. The therapist will create individualized treatment plans and track progress for each child on their caseload.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program and hold a valid license in California.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a pediatric setting is preferred. New graduates must have completed a successful clinical placement in pediatrics. Proficiency in evaluations within a pediatric clinic is essential.
  • Skills: Required skills include planning, administering, scoring, and interpreting developmental assessments related to sensory processing and motor coordination. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Certifications: Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and licensure from the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pediatric occupational therapy services in a clinical environment, with occasional visits to schools or homes.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations that incorporate standardized testing and structured observations, which may require extensive testing time, followed by scoring and clinical interpretation.
  • Identify areas of concern, set goals, and develop tailored treatment plans for clients.
  • Document evaluation results, treatment progress, and discharge summaries accurately and concisely.
  • Maintain comprehensive and current treatment notes for each client.
  • Create suitable home programs for clients, demonstrating developmental strategies for improvement.
  • Offer guidance and support to interns and volunteers involved in the occupational therapy program.
  • Engage positively with coworkers, clients, families, and other stakeholders, ensuring respectful and responsive interactions.
  • Adapt to new people, procedures, and situations effectively.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Exhibit knowledge of health and safety standards as outlined in Cal/OSHA regulations.
  • Adhere to AOTA guidelines for ethical and high-quality professional performance.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and effective time management skills.
  • Identify personal continuing education needs and pursue relevant courses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
