Position Summary

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will be responsible for planning, assessing, organizing, and implementing therapy programs aimed at enhancing sensory-motor development in children. This role involves conducting comprehensive evaluations to assess a child's functional abilities in areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, self-care, and daily living activities. The therapist will create individualized treatment plans and monitor each child's progress throughout their therapy journey. This position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and families.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program and hold a valid license in the State of California.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a pediatric setting is preferred. New graduates with successful clinical placements in pediatrics during their training are also encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Proficiency in conducting evaluations in a pediatric clinic setting is essential. Required skills include planning, administering, scoring, and interpreting assessments related to sensory processing and motor coordination. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary throughout this process.
  • Certifications: Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and licensure by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pediatric occupational therapy services to children in a clinical environment, with occasional outreach to schools or homes.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations, utilizing both standardized tests and structured observations, which may require extensive testing time followed by scoring and clinical interpretation. Parent conferences and detailed assessment reports will be provided for each evaluation.
  • Identify areas of concern, set goals, and develop tailored treatment plans for clients.
  • Document evaluation results, treatment progress, follow-up, and discharge accurately and concisely.
  • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date treatment notes for each client.
  • Create appropriate home programs for clients when necessary, showcasing developmental strategies for sensory and motor improvement.
  • Offer guidance, training, and support to interns and volunteers involved in the occupational therapy program.
  • Foster positive interactions with coworkers, clients, families, and external parties, treating everyone with respect and responsiveness.
  • Adapt to new individuals, procedures, and situations with ease.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Exhibit knowledge of health and safety protocols for children and families, as outlined in Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Adhere to AOTA guidelines for ethical and high-quality job performance.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and effective time management skills.
  • Identify personal continuing education needs and pursue relevant courses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
