Work Schedule:
This position demands a commitment of forty hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling to ensure optimal service delivery. Employees will typically work no more than five days per week.
Essential Functions:
Under the guidance of the Business Office Manager, the Billing Specialist will oversee all functions necessary for the effective operation of the Billing & Collections Department at Arrowhead Orthopaedics.
Key Responsibilities:
The role is primarily conducted within the Billing & Collections Department. The Billing Specialist will handle a high volume of work, ensuring that all tasks are performed with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. Daily interactions will involve confidential patient and physician information, requiring utmost discretion.
The Billing Specialist's responsibilities include:
1. Performing general clerical tasks, including data entry and charge entry.
2. Reviewing superbills for accuracy and making necessary adjustments for provider services, achieving a minimum of 120 charges per 8-hour day.
3. Maintaining logs for any discrepancies in services, Durable Medical Equipment, Pharmaceuticals, and Worker's Compensation reports.
4. Tracking logs utilized in the clinic.
5. Investigating all necessary information to complete the billing process, including obtaining charge details from physicians.
6. Coding information related to procedures and diagnoses.
7. Entering charge information into the online system and generating billing.
8. Assisting with coding and resolving errors.
9. Performing additional duties as assigned by the Business Office Manager.
Professional Relationships:
The Billing Specialist will report directly to the Business Office Manager and will communicate any progress, requests, or concerns regarding their responsibilities. This communication may be verbal or written as deemed necessary.
Interactions with other office and clinical staff should be collegial and professional, contributing to a positive work environment. The Billing Specialist may also engage with the public, ensuring that all communications reflect the office's commitment to quality care and customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
Skills:
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in operating computers and scanners, as well as familiarity with software programs such as Outlook.
- Strong telephone etiquette and professional communication skills.
- Ability to work under strict deadlines.
- Basic understanding of coding levels and documentation interpretation.
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD9, HCPCS, RBRVS, Medical Terminology, and Modifier 95 & 97 guidelines for E&M.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of data entry experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in orthopaedics, physical therapy, or podiatry is preferred.
Physical Demands:
This position requires sitting and walking, with occasional stooping, reaching, and bending. The ability to lift up to thirty pounds may be necessary. Hearing must be adequate for effective communication via telephone and in-person interactions. Manual dexterity is required to operate keyboards and other office equipment.
