As a Community-Focused Mortgage Loan Officer, your role will involve generating loan volume through proactive sales initiatives aimed at serving low to moderate income communities. You will have access to a variety of lending products, including specialized offerings for first-time homebuyers with favorable loan-to-value ratios. A background in lending is crucial for success in this position, and familiarity with basic underwriting standards is advantageous. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively assist clients and collaborate with various stakeholders involved in the loan process.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily tasks will encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct essential functions within the designated market area, focusing on low to moderate income neighborhoods.
  • Strive to achieve a favorable CRA rating in your assigned market.
  • Actively seek connections with individuals, real estate agents, builders, non-profit organizations, and community advocates to broaden your network and drive sales.
  • Engage in business development efforts outside the office, including participation in community events, homebuyer workshops, and financial literacy programs.
  • Implement marketing strategies and promotional activities, such as presentations and involvement in civic organizations, to enhance sales opportunities.
  • Consult with clients to gather comprehensive loan applications, ensuring compliance with guidelines while negotiating terms.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess eligibility for various loan products.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing information from initial sale through to closing.
  • Collaborate closely with mortgage operations teams to facilitate smooth loan transactions.
  • Develop a cooperative relationship with your processor to ensure an efficient loan process.
  • Expand partnerships as directed by the Community Engagement and Outreach Director.
  • Keep the Regional Lending Sales Manager informed of all CRA initiatives and strategies.
  • Perform outside sales duties with minimal supervision, often requiring evening and weekend availability due to client needs.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in outside sales, particularly in FHA, VA, and conventional lending.
  • Professional representation of Stock Yards Bank & Trust is expected in all interactions.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
  • Proficient in PC usage with a typing speed of at least 35 WPM.
  • Basic knowledge of underwriting guidelines is preferred.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor are required.
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills, with the ability to perform under pressure.
