The Advanced Custodial Associate is responsible for performing intricate custodial tasks at a senior level.

Key responsibilities include coordinating, cleaning, and sanitizing facilities within state hospitals and treatment units; delivering housekeeping services in a clinical environment, which entails conducting thorough inspections of buildings and equipment.

This role also involves ordering and replenishing supplies and equipment while providing support to fellow custodians as necessary. The position operates under limited supervision, allowing for significant initiative and independent judgment.

Additional duties may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) initiatives, which may require flexible shift assignments and/or location changes.

Essential Job Functions:

Regular attendance is required, and the individual may need to adhere to a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime as per agency leave policies.


Responsibilities include maintaining cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, as well as keeping accurate records of usage and maintenance of building property tools and equipment.

Ensures proper usage and upkeep, and performs minor repairs on custodial equipment (e.g., buffers, waxing machines, biohazard disposal units, vacuums, etc.).

Ensures that custodial supplies are adequately stocked.

Coordinates and executes cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting of restrooms, office surfaces, treatment areas, patient rooms, and other hospital spaces, utilizing appropriate cleaning agents; ensures that waste and trash are collected and disposed of in a timely manner.

Guarantees that all patient units meet or exceed established cleanliness, health, safety, and infection control standards.

Conducts inspections of facilities to identify areas needing attention and ensures follow-up actions are taken.

Assists the Custodian Manager in executing the overall safety and infection control protocols within the hospital.

Performs other assigned duties.

Additional responsibilities may include actively participating in or supporting the agency's obligations for disaster response and recovery or COOP activation, which may necessitate alternate shift assignments and/or location adjustments.



Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Familiarity with cleaning techniques and procedures, including dusting, sweeping, and mopping.

Understanding of floor stripping and waxing methods.

Proficiency in cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and shower facilities.

Knowledge of inventory management principles and practices.

Skills in utilizing custodial materials and chemicals, as well as operating custodial equipment.

Competence in using and maintaining building maintenance tools and equipment.

Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.

Capacity to remain focused and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Capability to stand or walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.

Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and patients.

Willingness to work irregular hours.
