Job Title: Electrical Engineer II

Location: Wilmington, NC 28405

Duration: 12+ Months Contract/Can be Extended

Pay Rate : $40 to $42/hr

Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in hands-on installation support for both new and modified production machinery, including troubleshooting and process initiation of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, focusing on enhancing equipment installation practices to boost efficiency, sourcing and accelerating parts and materials, and ensuring that redline drawings, schedules, and checklists are current.
  • Proficient in supervising both internal and external technicians, as well as maintenance and contract trades throughout all phases of equipment installation and conversion, including demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debugging of production machinery.

Required Software Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office is essential.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Provide hands-on installation support for newly introduced or modified production equipment.
  • Oversee and guide contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance teams, and external trades during all stages of equipment installation and conversion.
  • Engage in troubleshooting, process initiation, design, and documentation of Electrical and Controls Systems for new or modified production equipment.
  • Update existing documentation to finalize drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and specifications of production equipment.
  • Adapt machine control programs for new or existing process equipment, including but not limited to pick-and-place systems, servo-driven manipulators, robotics, automated part traffic flow, valve control of process gases and fluids, and PLC-controlled I/O.
  • Evaluate the condition and functionality of existing equipment to ensure compatibility with new installation plans.

Major Duties:

  • Conduct initial equipment setup and debugging prior to handover to operations.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support, guiding contract engineering technicians and trades as necessary to replace faulty components and implement design changes to resolve equipment/process challenges.
  • Source and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.
  • Develop electrical installation checklists and schedules, overseeing their implementation as appropriate.
  • Prepare work orders and direct maintenance personnel and/or external trades in the fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.
  • Review and update installation documentation and drawings as needed.
  • Modify software programs utilized for process equipment control.
  • Understand and set up machine controls for digital and analog I/O.
  • Revise existing schematics and collaborate with drafting services or supervise draftsmen as necessary to address design issues.
  • Train contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance, and external trades on new equipment installation procedures as required for successful execution of installation tasks.
  • Redesign electrical components to lower installation costs, resolve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs.
  • Analyze and enhance equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies, particularly aimed at optimizing installation schedules.

Desired Qualifications:

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required (other degrees may be considered if relevant work experience aligns with the job description).

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience is required.

Unique Requirements:

  • The majority of time will be spent on the production floor working with equipment.
  • Strong practical hands-on aptitude is essential.
  • Proficiency in electro-mechanical troubleshooting and familiarity with electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of motion control systems: servo, stepper, DC, and AC drives.
  • Understanding of process variables: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, and level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current loops.
  • Familiarity with serial communication protocols: RS232/485, Ethernet, IEEE-488.
  • Knowledge of machine control systems and classical control theory.

Preferred Equipment or Software Experience:

  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office Suite (including PowerPoint, Excel, Word), AutoCAD 2023, AutoCAD Electrical 2023, MS Project, PLC and PC-based systems, Allen-Bradley PLC, Beckhoff PLC/Motion Control, B-R Control, Fanuc Robotics, C++, Visual Basic, IFix, and experience with automated equipment systems.

Equipment Familiarization:

  • Experience with Fluke Meters, Oscilloscopes, and other electronic testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Controllers.
  • Knowledge of equipment used for machine installation activities, such as man lifts and hand tools.

Additional Information:

  • The team is based in Wilmington, NC, and this position is for a project initially based in Wilmington.
  • Contractors who excel and express interest in continuing beyond the initial project may be considered for further assignments.
  • However, subsequent projects may not be located in the same area as the initial posting, as there are multiple plants in NC.
  • Future travel requirements will vary based on project locations.
