Overview of the Position

This role involves significant responsibilities in managing a complex heritage resource program within an office environment. The individual will lead and coordinate efforts in heritage resource management, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical support for activities related to cultural, archaeological, and historical resource management.
  • Engage with tribal entities to address cultural values, traditional practices, and sensitive data, often navigating complex and controversial issues.
  • Ensure adherence to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
  • Tackle diverse challenges and develop innovative solutions to meet program objectives and requirements.
  • Evaluate proposed land-use and development initiatives to ensure compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA.
  • Collaborate with State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO) and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to determine appropriate measures for mitigating adverse effects on historic properties.
  • Contribute to the development of resource management plans and environmental impact assessments, focusing on cultural heritage considerations and potential conflicts.
