Role Summary:
The Trade Compliance Assistant Manager plays a vital role within our team, overseeing the classification of brand SKUs, maintaining the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and duty records in the brand's ERP system, and acting as a liaison with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) on various inquiries and requests. This position ensures that brokers adhere to established protocols and supports compliance with all relevant regulations from USCBP and partner government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of U.S. HTS codes for new SKUs and ensure accurate maintenance within the brand's ERP/PLM system.
  • Assign duty amounts and audit duty payments, actively participating in line-review activities with the merchant and sourcing teams.
  • Support post-entry audits and assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for auditing duty payments.
  • Facilitate the setup of new and reactivated import vendors and factories within the ERP system.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for all import-related inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders, including Customs Brokers and USCBP regulations.
  • Stay informed on import and export regulations, monitoring updates and implementing necessary changes within the organization.
  • Assist in managing First Sale, Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and duty drawback programs, providing necessary reporting.
  • Oversee the creation of export documentation as required.
  • Audit broker and paperwork processes, maintain compliance records, and communicate effectively with USCBP.
  • Collaborate with business partners to maintain the vendor manual and communicate requirements to vendors.
  • Understand duty deferral programs by origin and communicate relevant changes to support sourcing strategies.
  • Utilize ACE and other reporting tools as needed.
  • Support brand-level import operations teams with daily activities and identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in Import/Export Customs Brokerage is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, forms, licenses, and certifications affecting imported and exported products.
  • Proficient understanding of U.S. Harmonized Tariff Classification and Free Trade Agreements (e.g., CAFTA, AGOA).
  • Licensed Customs Broker status is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with the ACE Portal system is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to quickly learn technical applications.
  • Analytical skills to interpret quantitative and qualitative data effectively.
  • Ability to build constructive relationships with a diverse range of partners.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong listening, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends during peak periods.
  • This role is situated in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment.
