Los Angeles, California, United States The Trade Desk Full time

The Trade Desk is revolutionizing the way global brands and their agencies engage with audiences worldwide. Our media buying platform empowers brands to deliver insightful and relevant advertising experiences to consumers, establishing a new benchmark for global reach, precision, and transparency. We take pride in our organizational culture, valuing the unique experiences and perspectives that each individual contributes to The Trade Desk. We are dedicated to fostering inclusive environments where everyone can authentically express themselves at work.

If you are a talented, driven, and innovative individual eager to join a dynamic, globally-connected team, we would like to hear from you.

As the Director of Retail Data Partnerships, you will be instrumental in advancing one of The Trade Desk's most critical initiatives: cultivating exceptional working relationships with leading retailers. Your role will involve enhancing their retail media capabilities by developing unique Audience and Measurement solutions that optimize media performance for our advertisers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive strategic growth of our retail partners' offsite and self-serve businesses. This includes ongoing management of a dedicated portfolio of newly established and existing retail partnerships, fostering executive-level relationships, and providing thought leadership to propel the retailer's business forward, while supporting go-to-market initiatives with internal teams and external retailer sales leads.
  2. Promote the adoption of retail data among advertiser and agency partners. This involves educating and advocating for the value of Retail Data within comprehensive audience strategies and across full-funnel programmatic activations, as well as within broader measurement frameworks.

Your Role:

  1. Exhibit a consistent mode of strong influence and a forward-thinking mindset with retailers, advertisers, and agencies amidst an evolving industry landscape.
  2. Oversee existing retail data partnerships, ensuring that retailers maximize their revenue potential.
  3. Provide strategic insights to assist retailers in expanding their offsite business.
  4. Identify, secure, and launch new opportunities with current retail partners to enhance collaborations.
  5. Collaborate with operational counterparts to implement guidance that achieves greater consistency in supporting all marketplace retailers.
  6. Work closely with internal retail data partner colleagues to elevate the collective team's knowledge and output within the organization, driving ongoing retailer growth.
  7. Lead cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Data Science, Finance, and Technical Account Management to effectively implement and scale retail partnerships.
  8. Support commercial teams in promoting the adoption of data solutions.
  9. Ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  10. Maintain regular communication and updates with management regarding status and future opportunities.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience within an agency, advertiser, or retailer and possess the following core characteristics:

  1. A proven strategic thought leader with a deep understanding of the programmatic and data landscape, particularly in audience-first planning and buying approaches to accelerate offsite media activation using retail data.
  2. Familiarity with foundational retail measurement solutions and performance-based outcome metrics (such as ROAS, iROAS, sales lift, etc.), in addition to standard industry media metrics for reach and frequency.
  3. Ability to articulate core concepts and connect stakeholders at both macro and micro levels to influence and navigate technical integration and procedural contracting and negotiation processes across diverse teams including Product, Engineering, Legal, and Finance.
  4. Adept at thriving in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating creative problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

Additional Requirements:

  1. 10+ years of experience in creating and nurturing differentiated relationships across Retailers, Data Partners, and Advertisers.
  2. A proven track record of expanding partnerships.
  3. Expertise in digital media is essential; familiarity with retail data and digital identity is highly preferred.
  4. Skilled in closing contracts and negotiating with partners.
  5. Demonstrated communication, questioning, and listening skills in both formal and informal settings.
  6. Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities.
  7. Ability to establish excellent rapport with internal (Legal, Technical, Finance, Product) and external stakeholders; strong collaborative teamwork is essential.
  8. Must be capable of handling complexity and thinking on multiple levels of abstraction, with demonstrated use of critical thinking techniques.
