Role Overview: The Nursing Unit Clinical Supervisor plays a pivotal role in managing patient flow and facilitating communication within the clinical nursing unit during assigned shifts. This position acts as a key resource and leader for patients, nursing staff, healthcare providers, and administrative personnel.

Patient Care Commitment: The Clinical Supervisor is dedicated to ensuring that all patients receive care in an efficient, compassionate, and respectful manner.

Licensure Requirements:

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or a compact state.

Ongoing Certification:

  • Maintain current RN licensure in Virginia.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

  • Mandatory: A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • Preferred: Experience as a Charge Nurse or in a supervisory role, along with familiarity with similar patient demographics in acute care settings.

Educational Background:

  • Required: Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Note: Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of hire.

Preferred Education:

  • Certification in a specialty area and completion of a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited institution.

Independent Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to documented physician orders and practice within the regulations governing nursing in Virginia.
  • Follow the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national standards.
  • Organize and plan work in collaboration with patients and families, utilizing sound clinical judgment.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Delegate tasks and supervise the nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, and support staff.

Additional Position Details:

  • Clinical Supervisors are expected to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays as required by the unit.
  • Shift rotations and schedules will be coordinated with management.

Physical and Emotional Requirements:

  • Physical: Ability to lift and perform tasks that may include prolonged standing, sitting, bending, and climbing.
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
