Role Summary:

Under the supervision of the Head of Reference, the Technology Services Reference Librarian provides both general and specialized reference support to library patrons. This role requires familiarity with the library's collection, resources (both digital and print), policies, and procedures.

The position is primarily located at the reference desk and involves a variety of daily tasks. In addition to standard reference responsibilities, the librarian will focus on technology services, including assisting with 3D printing and conducting computer classes.

Additional Responsibilities:

This role will also involve collection development, programming, creating user guides, gathering statistics, and enhancing the overall user experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of various library services and activities. A high degree of adaptability is required to provide relevant and accessible services to all segments of the population served. Building community relationships and contributing to community objectives is essential.

The successful candidate will receive substantial support to achieve these goals from a dedicated and enthusiastic team of professionals, management, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing information on library services, facilities, and policies.
  • Assisting patrons in utilizing reference resources, such as indexes for books and periodicals.
  • Demonstrating procedures for navigating the public access catalog and electronic resources.
  • Addressing complex reference inquiries, including formulating and processing online search requests.
  • Developing and delivering instructional classes on library usage and resources.
  • Designing and conducting classes on computer skills.
  • Organizing and displaying library materials effectively.
  • Maintaining and managing reference materials.
  • Compiling bibliographies and creating both printed and digital user guides.
  • Participating in reference collection development, including planning and promoting electronic resources and services.
  • Assisting in the cataloging and classification of reference materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Library or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within one year of hire.
  • Experience in public service roles.

Compensation:

Starting salary is $46,980, contingent upon possessing an MLS/MLIS.
