Technology Services Reference Librarian

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Head of Reference, the Reference Librarian provides both general and specialized assistance to library patrons. This role requires familiarity with the library's collection, resources (both digital and print), and operational policies.

Located at the reference desk, the Reference Librarian's daily responsibilities will vary. In addition to standard reference tasks, this position will emphasize technology services, including support for 3D printing and conducting computer literacy classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide information about library services, resources, and policies.
  • Assist patrons in utilizing reference materials, including indexes and databases.
  • Guide users in navigating the public access catalog and electronic resources.
  • Address complex reference inquiries and assist with online search requests.
  • Develop and deliver instructional sessions on library resources and technology.
  • Create and maintain displays of library materials.
  • Support the organization and upkeep of reference collections.
  • Compile bibliographies and develop user guides in various formats.
  • Participate in the development of the reference collection, focusing on electronic resources.
  • Assist in cataloging and classifying reference materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within one year of hire.
  • Experience in public service roles.

Compensation:

Starting salary is $46,980, contingent upon possession of an MLS/MLIS.
