Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Head of Reference, the Reference Librarian will provide both general and specialized reference assistance to library patrons. This role requires a solid understanding of library collections, resources (both digital and print), and library policies.
The Reference Librarian will be stationed at the reference desk and will have a varied workload. Responsibilities will include delivering technology services, assisting with 3D printing, and conducting computer classes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide information regarding library activities, facilities, and services.
- Assist patrons in utilizing reference resources, including indexes and databases.
- Demonstrate procedures for navigating the public access catalog and electronic resources.
- Address complex reference inquiries and facilitate online search requests.
- Develop and conduct instructional classes on library resources and technology skills.
- Organize and maintain reference materials and displays.
- Compile bibliographies and create user guides in both print and digital formats.
- Contribute to the development of the reference collection, focusing on electronic resources.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within one year of hire.
- Experience in public service roles.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting salary is $46,980 for candidates with an MLS/MLIS.
