POSITION TITLE: Kitchen Preparation Specialist
REPORTS TO: General Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Restaurant Operations
LEVEL: Back of the House

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a non-exempt role that can be full-time or part-time. The Kitchen Preparation Specialist is tasked with the essential responsibility of preparing ingredients and foundational components for the menu items at Farmer Boys. This role requires independent decision-making to ensure that internal customers (crew members) receive their needs promptly and efficiently, all while maintaining a friendly demeanor. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with food safety and sanitation protocols as instructed by the Manager in Charge.
  • Prepares ingredients according to Farmer Boys standards, specifications, and measurements.
  • Ensures accurate portioning, sizing, and quality of ingredients.
  • Utilizes food preparation sheets to maintain appropriate stock levels and provides management with feedback on inventory usage.
  • Alerts the manager regarding any perishable items that may not meet freshness standards.
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains all necessary food preparation equipment.
  • Reports any spoilage or substandard products to management immediately.
  • Assists line cooks during peak hours as directed by the Manager in Charge.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas as instructed.
  • Adheres to the posted work schedule unless changes are arranged with the Manager in Charge.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Proactively safeguards critical limits and standards related to product control points.
  • Prioritizes the safety of food products above all other responsibilities.
  • Immediately informs the Manager in Charge of any food safety concerns.
  • Participates in assigned food safety training and educational sessions as required.
  • Follows established food safety standards and procedures diligently.
  • Reports any accidents or injuries involving guests or employees to the Supervisor and follows established protocols.
  • Safeguards company assets while ensuring personal safety.
  • Practices safe working habits and reports unsafe conditions to the General Manager.
  • Reads and comprehends instructions and labeling on all Safety Data Sheets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • This position is within the restaurant operations sector.
  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years.
  • May work in kitchen environments with elevated temperatures.
  • Understands the significance of quality food products and food safety.
  • Ability to follow directions and comprehend written instructions.
  • Must present a State or County mandated Food Handler Card within the specified timeframe.
  • Regular exposure to fumes from cleaning solvents and industrial degreasers is expected.
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking, bending, and lifting up to 65 pounds. Approximately 99% of the time is spent standing or walking.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in cooking or food preparation, or a combination of experience in a restaurant or food service environment.
