This position is situated within the Lunar Permanence division. To advance Blue Origin's vision of enabling a sustainable human presence in space, we are constructing reliable infrastructure for the transportation of personnel and cargo from Earth to the Lunar surface. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and integrate electrical and avionics systems, including hardware, software, and interconnect solutions for our communication systems.
  • Create comprehensive test plans, procedures, and scripts for execution in both standalone and integrated environments.
  • Conduct both informal and formal verification and validation testing.
  • Document test outcomes in accordance with program specifications and communicate risks, challenges, and solutions to colleagues with diverse technical expertise.
  • Analyze and interpret data from integrated electrical and avionics systems.
  • Facilitate the integration of vehicle hardware, ground support equipment, operator consoles, and analytical tools necessary for verifying performance and requirements of units under test.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues within a laboratory setting.
  • Design and implement laboratory testing tools and software to enhance testing efficiency.
  • Assist in integration and testing activities, including wiring, hardware installation, and test bench configuration.
  • Engage in design and system reviews to provide insights on integration and testability throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions with real-time vehicle simulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience with electronic or electrical/electromechanical systems, including hands-on experience in prototyping, design, integration, and/or testing.
  • Knowledge of digital, analog, and mixed-signal components and their applications, such as CPUs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, ADCs, DACs, OpAmps, and various communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with the development of safety-critical systems in aerospace, medical, or automotive sectors.
  • Experience in integrating and testing vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency in developing specialized electronic testing equipment and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Skilled in using standard electronic laboratory testing and troubleshooting tools.
  • A strong desire to engage in hands-on work, both independently and collaboratively, throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Experience with soldering, PCB rework, crimping, and harness/connector assembly.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Experience in RF communication subsystem design, with a solid understanding of RF principles, particularly UHF and S-band RF for vehicle and ground station development.
  • Strong capability in planning and defining RF systems, including creating RF link budgets and conducting site tests.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as mechanical, ground, and operations to achieve optimal design solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in large-scale verification of avionics and RF systems for autonomous spaceflight systems.
  • Experience supporting testbeds for spaceflight systems.
  • Proficiency in programming with C++ and/or Python, along with experience in Simulink.
  • Demonstrated experience in RF design, development, integration, testing, and operation of avionics systems or vehicles.
