Role Overview

This position is pivotal in shaping the future of space travel and requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure safe and repeatable space missions.

Join us in our quest to reduce the cost of space access and realize our vision of a thriving human presence beyond Earth.

You will be integrated into the Avionics Group within the Lunar Permanence business unit, collaborating with a dedicated team of design engineers on projects that define the future of Blue Origin.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced design setting.
  • Engage in the complete design cycle of mission-critical avionics.
  • Conduct developmental trade studies to inform design decisions.
  • Develop mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to integrate printed circuit boards and interconnect systems, performing thermal and structural analyses.
  • Design robust avionics enclosures for high reliability in extreme environments.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and technical documentation.
  • Construct and assess prototype assemblies.
  • Design assembly aids and testing fixtures.
  • Plan and execute engineering tests and data evaluations.
  • Review assembly instructions and assist in hardware assembly.
  • Validate design requirements through rigorous testing and analysis.
  • Support Production and Quality Engineering in addressing material defects.
  • Manage product design revisions throughout the lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis.
  • Familiarity with solder fatigue analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in FEA tools, preferably ANSYS.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software, ideally Creo.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying design concepts and analysis outcomes.
  • Experience in designing rugged electronic enclosures or similar high-performance hardware.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships in a diverse environment.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with current versions of Creo, Windchill, and ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics.
  • Familiarity with aerospace structural analysis methodologies.
  • Experience with environmental testing protocols.
  • Background in mentoring or training team members.
  • Experience with mechanical packaging of optical systems.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR and radar technologies.
