Role Summary

This position is situated within the Avionics Group of the Lunar Permanence business unit. As a vital member of a dynamic and innovative team of design engineers, you will engage in projects that define the future of space exploration. Your primary focus will be on the design, analysis, and testing of avionics enclosures for electronic components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced design environment.
  • Engage in the complete design cycle of critical flight and mission avionics.
  • Conduct developmental trade studies to support design decisions.
  • Develop mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents.
  • Work closely with electrical engineering teams to integrate printed circuit boards and interconnect systems, including performing thermal and structural analyses.
  • Design robust avionics enclosure solutions for high reliability in extreme environments.
  • Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and technical documentation, including part and assembly drawings.
  • Build and assess prototype assemblies, creating assembly aids and test fixtures.
  • Plan and execute engineering tests and data reviews.
  • Review assembly instructions and assist in hardware builds.
  • Validate design requirements through comprehensive testing, analysis, and inspection.
  • Support Production and Quality Engineering in addressing material defects.
  • Manage product design revisions throughout the product lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis.
  • Familiarity with solder fatigue analysis.
  • Proficiency in FEA tools, preferably ANSYS.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software, ideally Creo.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying design concepts and analysis results.
  • Experience in designing rugged electronic enclosures or similar high-performance hardware.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with recent versions of Creo, Windchill, and ANSYS.
  • Background in fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standard structural analysis methods.
  • Experience with environmental testing, including vibration, shock, and thermal cycling.
  • Experience in mentoring or training others.
  • Knowledge of mechanical packaging for optical systems.
  • Experience with LiDAR and/or radar systems.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position varies based on location and experience.
