CULINARY OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR, FULL TIME OPPORTUNITY WITH BENEFITS, COMPENSATION: $17.97

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a dedicated Culinary Operations Supervisor to enhance our vibrant team. This role encompasses responsibilities such as meal preparation, menu design, budgeting, and the overall management of kitchen operations.
This position involves supervising 5 to 8 clients engaged in Work-Therapy Assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of experience in institutional or restaurant cooking with supervisory duties preferred.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capability to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Capacity to work in environments with varying temperatures.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and following recipes.
  • Ability to smell and taste for freshness and seasoning accuracy.
  • Competence in performing various repetitive motion tasks.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Organize kitchen workload to ensure timely meal preparation, serving, and cleanup.
  2. Train and oversee kitchen Work-Therapy Assignments on proper cooking methods.
  3. Educate and supervise kitchen staff on food safety, workplace safety, and sanitation standards, ensuring compliance with established sanitation protocols.
  4. Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained in optimal condition, scheduling preventative and emergency repairs as necessary.
  5. Conduct weekly inventory of unused items and rotate stock to maintain freshness.
  6. Order food in alignment with nutritional guidelines and budgetary constraints.
  7. Develop and sustain vendor relationships with various suppliers, including local food banks.
  8. Collaborate with the Program Administrator for daily menu planning and special events.
  9. Oversee buffet presentation and decoration for special occasions.
  10. Consult with professional staff regarding beneficiary services as needed.
  11. Keep the Resident Manager and Program Administrator informed about staffing requirements.
  12. Ensure adherence to established personnel policies and directives, implementing disciplinary measures when necessary.
  13. Maintain consistent safety measures in accordance with TSA Policy and governmental regulations.
  14. Uphold confidentiality as required for program operations.
  15. Ensure kitchen areas meet County inspection standards.
  16. All overtime must receive written approval from the Program Administrator.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Driver License (required)
  • 1 year: Experience in developing and maintaining vendor relationships (preferred)
  • 1 year: Familiarity with Commercial Safety Measures (required)
  • 1 year: Ability to maintain confidentiality (required)
  • 1 year: Experience working with the public (preferred)
  • 1 year: Institutional Kitchen Experience (required)
