Job Overview

Position Title: Direct Support Professional

Department: Day Supports

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reporting To: Habilitation Coordinator or Senior Habilitation Coordinator

Physical Demands: The role requires walking, reaching, standing, climbing stairs, bending/stooping, pushing wheelchairs, and the ability to lift and transfer individuals and various materials.

Work Schedule: Part-time or full-time, with some weekend programs as required.

Compensation: Competitive pay based on qualifications and experience.


Position Summary: The Direct Support Professional is responsible for delivering personalized care and support to individuals with disabilities, ensuring they lead fulfilling lives. The role involves collaboration with team members to complete assigned tasks that promote health, safety, and quality of life.


Key Qualifications:
  1. Reliable transportation is necessary for travel.
  2. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
  3. A valid New York State Driver's License is mandatory.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Individualized Support: Provide tailored assistance that respects each person's unique routines and preferences.
  2. Financial Guidance: Aid individuals in managing purchases, including choice, expense tracking, and financial planning.
  3. Health and Nutrition: Coordinate medical needs while promoting independence for the individual.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to agency, state, and federal regulations, reporting any incidents or concerns promptly.
  5. Training and Development: Educate individuals on safety protocols and other essential topics through natural learning opportunities.
  6. Community Engagement: Facilitate participation of individuals with disabilities in community activities.
  7. Professional Conduct: Embody agency values, maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
  8. Safety and Environment: Ensure a secure and comfortable setting, reporting hazards to supervisors immediately.
  9. Attendance: Participate in scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  10. Outcome Measures: Understand and apply the 21 Personal Outcome Measures in the support provided.
