Job Title: Service Foreman
Craft: Service
Reports to: Superintendent
Exempt Status: Hourly (non-exempt)


Position Objective:
The Service Foreman plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the service crew engaged in various civil construction tasks. This position requires hands-on involvement alongside the leadership of the crew to ensure effective project execution.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team responsible for a range of construction activities, including underground piping, excavation, grading, and water service installations.
  • Independently document, plan, and execute work tasks.
  • Operate various heavy construction machinery as required.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing on water and reclaimed systems, as well as vacuum and air testing on sewer manholes.
  • Perform mud work on sewer and storm manholes, ensuring proper elevation and installation of valve cams.
  • Collaborate with management and other personnel to receive guidance for crew operations and subcontractor coordination.
  • Monitor work progress, equipment status, and site conditions to ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings to promote a culture of safety.
  • Order and inspect necessary equipment based on project specifications.
  • Report to the Superintendent regarding work progress, material usage, and any issues encountered.
  • Conduct safety orientation for new employees and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and conflict resolution on the job site.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications related to civil projects.
  • Familiarity with highway construction processes, including underground utilities.
  • Proficient in operating various earthmoving equipment.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Experienced in scheduling, field supervision, safety management, and quality control in civil construction.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including the ability to motivate and manage team dynamics.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular physical activity, including extended periods of standing.
  • Frequent walking and maneuvering on construction sites.
  • Ability to climb, twist, bend, kneel, and lift objects as necessary.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity are essential.

Education / Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Service Foreman in heavy highway construction or related fields.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Work Environment:
This position typically involves outdoor work in various weather conditions, including exposure to heat, humidity, and noise from heavy machinery. The work environment may also include exposure to construction materials and substances.
