Job Description

Job Title: Foreman (Service)
Craft: Service
Reports to: Superintendent
Exempt Status: Hourly (non-exempt)


Position Objective:
To oversee and guide the service team engaged in various civil construction activities, ensuring efficient execution and adherence to safety protocols.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team responsible for diverse construction tasks, including underground piping, excavation, grading, and water service installations.
  • Independently document, plan, and execute work activities.
  • Operate heavy machinery as required for project completion.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing on water and reclaim systems, and perform vacuum and air testing on sewer manholes.
  • Engage with management and personnel to clarify work procedures, interpret specifications, and resolve issues.
  • Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with safety standards and quality expectations.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings to promote a culture of safety.
  • Order and assess necessary equipment based on project needs.
  • Report on project status, including progress, materials used, and any challenges encountered.
  • Conduct safety orientations and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and conflict resolution on the job site.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with highway construction practices, including underground utilities.
  • Proficient in operating various earthmoving equipment.
  • Skilled in multitasking and managing time effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in scheduling, supervising, and ensuring safety compliance in civil construction.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills for managing team dynamics.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of sustained physical activity, including standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate construction sites, including climbing and lifting.
  • Regularly required to handle tools and equipment safely.
  • Must be able to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds, with occasional heavier loads.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Service Foreman in heavy highway construction or related fields.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Work Environment:
Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, often near heavy machinery. Exposure to construction site hazards, including noise, vibration, and various substances, is common.
