Position Title: Construction Pipe Technician

Trade: Pipe

Reports To: Crew Supervisor

Employment Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)


Position Summary:
The Construction Pipe Technician is responsible for executing various manual labor tasks within the framework of construction projects, guided by the crew supervisor.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in strenuous physical activities related to heavy and highway construction.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and cleanup of job sites, including the construction and dismantling of scaffolding and the placement of barricades.
  • Handle the loading, unloading, and distribution of materials, machinery, and tools.
  • Manage traffic around construction sites and implement traffic control measures.
  • Excavate ditches or trenches, backfill sites, and ensure proper compaction and leveling of earth.
  • Utilize hand tools such as picks, shovels, and rakes to achieve grade specifications.
  • Prepare forms for concrete pouring using various tools.
  • Operate pumps, compressors, and generators as needed.
  • Signal construction equipment operators to assist in the movement of materials.
  • Support skilled tradespeople, including carpenters and masons, as required.
  • Measure and mark locations for site preparation.
  • May operate a range of power and hand tools, including air hammers and cement mixers.
  • Maintain a clean work environment by properly disposing of waste.
  • Conduct daily maintenance and safety inspections of equipment.
  • Adhere to and promote the company's safety protocols.
  • Experience in pipe laying and underground utilities is preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery is a plus.
  • Perform tasks related to the erection or dismantling of temporary structures.

  • Proficient in using various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions and a commitment to skill enhancement.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors and team members.
  • Basic understanding of road construction methods.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Professional demeanor towards colleagues and the public.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation to job sites is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistent physical exertion, including prolonged standing for at least an 8-hour shift.
  • Frequent walking on construction sites.
  • Ability to climb, twist, bend, kneel, and crouch regularly.
  • Capability to lift and carry objects weighing at least 75 pounds regularly.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions in a noisy environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in general labor or a related field.
  • Valid Driver's license is required.

Work Environment:
Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. The role involves proximity to moving machinery and exposure to potentially hazardous materials. Noise levels can vary from moderate to loud.
