Position Overview

The Solt Laboratory at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute of Biomedical Innovation and Technology, within the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, is on the lookout for exceptional, innovative, and self-driven postdoctoral researchers. The focus of the Solt Laboratory is to explore and elucidate the role of nuclear receptors, a group of ligand-responsive transcription factors, in T cell development, functionality, and chronic inflammatory conditions. Our dual objectives are: 1) to deepen our understanding of nuclear receptor mechanisms in immune responses, and 2) to design and evaluate small molecule ligands that influence nuclear receptor activity as tools for biological exploration and potential therapeutic strategies. This NIH-funded postdoctoral role will specifically investigate how endogenous ligands modulate REV-ERB-specific transcriptional regulation in TH17-mediated autoimmune responses and chronic inflammation.

Research Responsibilities

This project encompasses a multidisciplinary approach, employing a range of methodologies including immunology, mouse genetics, molecular biology techniques, and genomics. The successful candidate will engage in all facets of the project, from experimental design to data analysis and interpretation. Candidates are expected to take on a leadership role within the laboratory, fostering an environment of scientific excellence and innovation, advancing complex and impactful research initiatives, and contributing to the development and writing of grant applications. Participation in departmental seminars, journal clubs, and both national and international conferences is also anticipated. Dr. Solt is dedicated to nurturing the professional growth of all team members, offering opportunities for development both within and outside the laboratory, along with meaningful one-on-one mentorship. Special emphasis is placed on supporting women scientists who may face challenges in continuing their scientific careers at this stage.

Work Environment

This position is situated in a laboratory or vivarium setting. Further details regarding the physical requirements and essential functions of this role will be discussed during the interview process.

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. (or MD/PhD) in biological sciences such as immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry, accompanied by a robust international publication record.

Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • Proficiency in immunology techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, mouse genetics, and in vivo models of inflammation.
  • Experience in biochemistry methods such as immunoprecipitation and Western blotting.
  • Familiarity with epigenetics/genomics techniques including ChIP, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, and CUT&RUN.
  • Basic knowledge of bioinformatics (R, Python, or other programming languages) or the ability to learn.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, with excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
