Classification Title:
Research Scientist

Position Summary:
An opportunity is available for a Research Scientist in Inorganic Chemistry to collaborate with a distinguished team led by Prof. George Christou in the Department of Chemistry, contributing to the Center for Molecular Magnetic Quantum Materials (M2QM). This center, supported by the US Department of Energy, focuses on advancing the synthesis and analysis of innovative molecular materials and their quantum behaviors.

Research Focus:
The M2QM Center addresses two key technological challenges:
1) Development of quantum bits (qubits) for quantum computing.
2) Integration of quantum, molecule-based devices into traditional computing and sensing technologies for enhanced energy efficiency and speed.

To achieve these objectives, collaboration between computational scientists and experimental chemists and physicists is essential.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will engage in the synthesis and characterization of molecular coordination compounds and clusters, focusing on:
- Magnetic molecules and their supramolecular aggregates as potential multi-qubit systems.
- Generation and examination of superposition and entanglement states of exchange-coupled molecules.
- Investigation of spin transitions and magnetoelectric couplings in molecular magnetic systems.
- Analysis of decoherence in spin and clock transitions.

This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years based on performance and funding availability.

Institution Overview:
The University of Florida is a leading institution known for its comprehensive educational offerings and vibrant campus life. It is recognized for its academic excellence and is located in a region that offers numerous recreational opportunities, cultural events, and highly rated educational programs.

Compensation:
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- A PhD in Chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry, particularly with 3d transition metals and lanthanides.
- Proficiency in crystallization techniques and spectroscopic methods such as magnetochemistry, NMR, EPR, and electrochemistry.
- Experience in organic synthesis is advantageous.

Application Process:
For full consideration, applications must be submitted online and include:
1) A letter summarizing qualifications and interests.
2) A complete curriculum vitae.
3) A statement outlining research goals.
4) A list of at least three references.
