Research Scientist - Valente Laboratory

Job No: 521306
Work Type: Postdoctoral Research
Location: Remote
Categories: Biology/Life Science, Medicine/Physicians
Department: SR-IM-VALENTE LAB

Position Overview

Classification Title:

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Position Summary:
The Valente Laboratory within the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at a prestigious research institute is on the lookout for an exceptionally skilled, innovative, and self-driven postdoctoral researcher. Our primary focus is on elucidating the molecular interactions within host cells that are pivotal for HIV transcription. We aim to create therapeutic strategies that inhibit HIV-1, particularly those that contribute to the reduction, eradication, or suppression of the reservoir of latently infected cells.

Current Research Projects Include:
  • Exploring the clinical efficacy of Tat inhibitors in in vivo models of HIV latency
  • Investigating Tat-independent HIV replication mechanisms and their implications for HIV reservoir formation
  • Developing agents that promote HIV latency and assessing their potential for a functional cure
  • Identifying and characterizing chromatin regulators and host cellular factors that modulate HIV latency and reactivation

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. (or MD/PhD) in biological sciences such as virology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or immunology, along with several international publications.

Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency in virology techniques including cell culture, virus production, lentivirus vector production, p24 ELISA, and flow cytometry.
  • Experience working in a BSL3 laboratory.
  • Expertise in biochemistry techniques such as immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, and protein expression and purification.
  • Familiarity with epigenetics techniques including ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq.
  • Experience in small molecule screening.
  • Experience with primary cell models of HIV latency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, along with excellent organizational and analytical abilities.

Additional Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in HIV research.

Application Instructions:

Postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to submit an inquiry along with a cover letter and CV. The selected candidate will be required to provide an official transcript to the hiring department upon acceptance. Transcripts will not be considered "official" if they display a designation of "Issued to Student." Degrees obtained from institutions outside the United States must be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Application Period: Open until filled.

Health Assessment Required:
