Position Overview:
Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Environmental Risk Assessment Expert to enhance our team.

In this capacity, you will deliver innovative technical solutions to our clients while promoting best practices for assessing and managing risks to ecological systems and environmental responsibilities.

Your contributions will be vital in expanding our ecological risk assessment capabilities by pinpointing business prospects and offering specialized knowledge for risk evaluation, ecological studies, and engineering initiatives aimed at employing strategies that safeguard ecological assets and maintain biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute ecological risk assessments for contaminated locations.
  • Formulate ecotoxicological and bioaccumulation study frameworks, particularly concerning PFAS, for research grant proposals.
  • Act as a Seller/Doer of ecological risk assessment services for Tetra Tech, engaging with both new and existing clients in the government and private sectors.
  • Oversee the execution of Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessments (SLERAs) and Baseline Ecological Risk Assessments (BERAs). Conduct habitat evaluations, ecotoxicity studies, and risk assessments.
  • Provide ecological evaluation and risk mitigation strategies for CERCLA Remedial Designs and RCRA Corrective Measures Studies.
  • Assist in developing sampling and analysis plans for various environmental media, including soil, groundwater, surface water/sediment, indoor air, and biological tissues.
  • Manage the preparation and conduct senior technical reviews of reports for client submission.
  • Support clients in negotiations with regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor junior to mid-level risk assessors in their professional development.
  • Serve as the lead ecological risk assessor on proposals and projects.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at scientific conferences and for client engagements.
  • Participate as an instructor in ecological risk assessment training courses.
Qualifications:
  • PhD in toxicology or biology with 15 to 20+ years of relevant experience in government, environmental consulting, or academia.
  • Proven expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in ecological risk assessment.
  • Certification as a Diplomate of the International Board of Environmental Risk Assessors (IBERA) or the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent technical writing and communication abilities are essential.
  • Experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in environmental contexts is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with the CERCLA remediation process is required; knowledge of RCRA and relevant state regulations is preferred.
  • Experience in applying statistical methods in study design and environmental data analysis is a plus.
  • Proactive and client-focused, with the ability to work effectively as a subject matter expert in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience in risk communication with clients and stakeholders, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Expert witness and litigation support experience is a plus.
  • Experience in developing cost-effective remediation strategies for contaminated sites.
  • Project management experience, including budget estimation and schedule tracking, is essential.
