Job Overview
The Sustainability Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing the environmental and planning initiatives for NANA Regional Corporation and its clientele across Alaska. This position is integral in assisting clients with the planning and execution of environmental endeavors, which encompass the development of work plans, conducting studies and investigations, obtaining necessary permits, compiling reports, engaging in fieldwork, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the role may involve overseeing field programs and coordinating team logistics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical planning and implementation of environmental and community/regional planning projects, including the preparation and finalization of documents.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of environmental regulations and their application across various sectors and environmental media.
  • Provide support for geological and environmental initiatives related to mining operations.
  • Oversee field sampling and data collection efforts, including the supervision of other team members and subcontractors.
  • Manage health and safety protocols for assigned field programs.
  • Engage in periodic client interactions with a focus on geological reporting and environmental initiatives.
  • Facilitate regulatory support and coordination with local, state, and federal environmental agencies regarding environmental issues.
  • Offer technical expertise for various environmental compliance or permitting projects and programs.
  • Conduct research and clarify regulations, policies, or procedures as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, chemistry, natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a safety-conscious work environment.

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and a systematic approach to task execution.

Working Conditions
Work may occur in both indoor and outdoor settings, with standard office noise levels. The role requires occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs and involves various physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and using hands for tasks. Travel may be necessary based on project requirements.
